A LITTLE EXTRA HELP: Beaverton Schools is partnering with Varsity Tutors to offer FREE live online learning access to all sorts of new valuable resources to our students. Whether it’s checking into weekly live classes, chatting with a tutor about a tough assignment, on-demand essay reviews or self-study practices, there’s bound to be assistance you can use at no cost to the student. There are also supplemental private tutoring options for students at a discounted rate. As of right now, the program is available to students in grades 6 through 12, but we’ll also be offering it to elementary students in the near future. IT’S AN HONOR: Our students at Beaverton Elementary will once again pay tribute to all the veterans in our community with our annual Veterans Day Assembly this Friday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. at BES. Please help spread the word to let the veterans in your life know that we’d be honored if they would join us. Our students and teaching staff have been preparing for several weeks and if you’ve attended in the past, you know this event is something special. Additionally, a light reception will be provided for community military members starting at noon. (And if you’re unable to attend, you can catch the event streaming live on the Beaverton Schools YouTube channel at
https://t.ly/HD0jN.) Thank you, veterans, and we’ll see you there. #Respect

Have you heard about the B-Positive club!? Each month we have a theme to reward different kinds of behaviors. So far, we have honored good attendance (September) and good behavior (October). This week kicks off "B-Kind" month and we are promoting acts of kindness both inside and outside of school. Students can report their act of kindness to their WIN teacher to be entered into this month's assembly prize! Be on the lookout for kindness at BJSHS and encourage your student to reflect on what it means to B-Kind! #gobeavers

IS THAT REGULATION GEAR? Today's much-anticipated BJSHS Dodgeball Showdown between students and staff was much more than a tale of heroes vs. villains or of a freshman class fundraiser gone crazy. Indeed, it was a battle for the very soul of the school. And when the smoke cleared, the sophomore class had plowed past its peers and its teachers, leaving zero doubt about its dodgeball dominance in this town. #GoBeavers #DodgeDuckDipDiveDodge

GREAT EGGSPECTATIONS: Big day for knowledge on campus today. (But aren't they all?) At BJSHS, our friend and PlastiVan Educator Elizabeth Egan returned once again to amaze junior high students with lab experiments that always seem to carry just a touch of magic. Meanwhile at BES, the grand finale of the annual Egg Drop project spelled a day of reckoning for dozens. Fourth-graders pulled together weeks of research, bundled their eggs with as much safe packaging as their imaginations could muster, launched them from the top row of the bleachers and hoped for the best in their quest for a safe landing. Neither event ever fails to entertain and as always, science rules the day. #GoBeavers #Eggceptional

Our links mentoring students are having a blast during team building Thursdays! Each week we play a game to build communication skills. Last week we pulled out two classics: Taboo and Scattegories to "find the right words" and this week we played the family versions of "What Do You Meme" and "New Phone, Who Dis?" to gauge everyone's sense of humor. Their teacher beat the first group quite handily on the memes. Turns out the teacher does have a handle on student humor!

REVENGE OF THE PUMPKIN PAINTERS: As you're making your way around our fair town in the weeks to come and you see those brilliantly-decorated pumpkins lining the streets, be advised that BJSHS and BES students are the artists behind at least some of that inspired artwork. They spent the week with paintbrushes in hand, splashing on their best designs to help decorate the city for Halloween. #GhoulBeavers

"HOW MANY PEOPLE IN HERE HAVE A DREAM?" That was one of the easier questions put to BJSHS students today by Corey Warren, Jacque Liebner and their crew from STR8TALK, a powerful combination of tough personal testimony and music designed to open young peoples' eyes to the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. Sometimes funny, sometimes tragic, but always compelling, Warren shared his journey through heroin and alcohol addiction as a teenager who seemingly had a great life, warning observers that he once sat in a gym listening to a presentation just like this one - quite certain that it didn't apply to him. Eventually, he found himself near death, facing decades in prison for armed robbery, and alone. Today, at 35, he uses his recovery to help others facing those demons as well as showing young people how to avoid them. The STR8TALK crew shook the gym with its music with a message, making an important impression on our kids. #GoBeavers #STR8TALK
